I-Level was a short-term U.K. band consisting of Duncan Bridgeman, Jo Dworniak, and Sam Jones. Bridgeman and Dworniak -- both from Essex, England -- met through a classified ad in Melody Maker and first played together in Scrambled Egos and Shake Shake before evolving into I-Level, with the addition of Sam Jones from the Dominican Republic. With Jones, a former member of the reggae band Brimstone, I-Level snagged a deal with Virgin Records in 1982. The year before, Bridgeman was a brief member of the Last Dance and recorded with the band.
They scored out of the box in the U.K. with "Give Me," which became a Top Five R&B single in the U.S. via Epic Records. The success inspired a whole album of songs. I-Level dropped early in 1983 and two more not as successful singles, "Minefield" and "Teacher," bubbled out. 1985 saw the release of the trio's second and final LP, Shake, which contained the controversial track "In the Sand," an acclaimed U.K. rare groove. When the album didn't move, I-Level disbanded.
Dworniak became a sought-after session man with credits too numerous to mention. He was a member of the duo Gardening by Moonlight with John Johnson and played keyboards for John Foxx. In 1989, Bridgeman and Dworniak remixed Paul McCartney's "Good Sign" track and they continue to work with a diverse array of artists. The whereabouts of Sam Jones are unknown.

Patrick Cowley - Muscle Up (2015) [Recorded 1973-1981]
Like Arthur Russell, another cult hero whose status rose years after he died of AIDS, San Francisco’s Patrick Cowley was known during his short lifetime for left-of-center disco; with songs like "Menergy" and "Megatron Man", he was the prime architect of the uptempo electronic disco variant Hi-NRG, later popularized by hits like Dead or Alive’s "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)".
Also like Russell, Cowley’s roots were avant-garde; where Russell's lineage came from experimental classical composers like Christian Wolff, Cowley drew inspiration from early Moog masters Tomita, Wendy Carlos, and Tangerine Dream. Unlike Russell, however, some of Cowley's work reached the mainstream: What Giorgio Moroder was to Donna Summer, Cowley was to LGBT pioneer Sylvester the mustachioed background figure who contemporized a disco diva’s hot soul with cool technology.
Yet unbeknownst to even most of his disco fans, Cowley also created synth compositions in the even-more-underground medium of gay porn. Muscle Up is the second of two releases compiling this work, spanning time spent as a student at the City College of San Francisco to the period shortly before his death in 1982, when he scored his final smashes with Sylvester, Paul Parker, Loverde, and other Bay Area acts. As with 2013's School Daze, it takes its name from a real 1980 porn film, released by L.A.'s Fox Studio, that Cowley soundtracked. The music here documents an important cultural shift: As Super 8 gave way to VHS, DVD, and digital, much of gay and straight porn music alike would be synth-centric.
Like porn itself, electronic music references reality while signaling a fantastical break from it. For gay men born in the '50s like Cowley, synths suggested a refuge from repression, an escape hatch from a world where police entrapped, beat, and jailed them; where they lost their jobs or unwillingly severed family ties. This is one of the reasons why synth-disco milestones like Summer's "I Feel Love"—a track Cowley further intensified in his legendary 15+ minute remix—resonated so strongly with gay dancers of its era: Synth music was dream/sci-fi music, and it competed with R&B at the bathhouses where its suspension of time and space heightened the otherworldliness of unlimited sexual expression central to pre-AIDS gay experience, as if every man-on-man encounter after Stonewall and before Plague was a trip to the moon.
Appropriately, the first track of Muscle Up, "Cat's Eye", begins with a whooshing interplanetary-wind sound, and the ominous processional tom-toms that follow lets us know that sex is about to happen in the furtive way animals anticipate an earthquake. Cowley's keys ape ceremonial trumpets much like the pseudo-horn fanfare that opens Devo's Duty Now for the Future. That was 1979; this piece was allegedly recorded in '75. The recording is crude and there's a moment of cacophony when two martial drum patterns crossfade and collide, but even this accidental frisson suggests porn's glitchy, clandestine low-budget production values.
As a former drummer who switched to synths (but plays everything here besides didgeridoo and a bit of bass), Cowley comprehended both discipline and exploration. There's little onMuscle Up that sounds robotic; "5oz of Funk" echoes the syncopated beat and bass from Patti Jo's "Make Me Believe in You". Only once do machines keep time, on a 1975 instrumental demo version of "Somebody to Love Tonight", a song that Cowley revisited four years later with Sylvester, yielding understated but profoundly aching results. Even at this stage, it's supremely sultry, simmering with desires then considered utterly vile beyond the San Francisco bubble.

The Prodigal Sons - Wine Of Life (1993)

Frank Zappa - Return Of The Son Of Kill Ugly Radio (1996)
The last of 3 Volumes promoting the Frank Zappa catalog release on Rykodisc. Music & Interview Snippets with FZ from WBAI Zappa Tribute which Aired Jan. 22, 1994.
The third and final promotional Frank Zappa anthology manufactured by Rykodisc in the mid-1990s as a promotional vehicle to reach radio stations served primarily as a way to promote the collection of previously unreleased recordings on the forthcoming anthology, The Lost Episodes. The tracks taken from Zappa's earliest albums ("Hungry, Freaks, Daddy" and "Concentration Moon") have the original bass and drum tracks restored, removing Zappa's overdubs that were added to the first generation of CDs from this era. Sadly, this anthology is the weakest of the three because the songs were not selected with as much care and there are no interview excerpts of Zappa to give collectors an added incentive to look for this rare CD. While it may be sought after by completists, most everyone else can safely skip this disc, as Zappa connoisseurs will already have all of the recordings within this package.
01. Take Your Clothes Off When You Danc (3:51)
02. Stinkfoot (7:40)
03. Hungry Freaks, Daddy (3:29)
04. Concentration Moon (2:22)
05. Would You Go All The Way? (2:30)
06. I Don't Wanna Get Drafted (3:25)
07. A Few Moments With Brother A. West (4:01)

Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson - "Lycka" (1970, 2006 Reissue)
Lycka is a 1970 album released by folk/rock duo Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson, who later became the male half of ABBA. Most of the songs feature lead vocals by Björn. The songs show the influence of Brian Wilson, "Ticket to Ride"-era Beatles and traditional Swedish folk music. LYCKA was produced by Björn and Benny with Bengt Bernhag and engineered by Michael B.Tretow. Benny and Björn played on the tracks with two Swiss musicians, drummer John Counz -drums and bassist -Gus Horn. S.O.Walldoff was responsible for the orchestral arrangements and during the 2006 re-release some songs were included such as the early recordings with the two girl half of the Swedish pop-group ABBA Anni-Frid Frida Lyngstad who was married to Benny Andersson and Agnetha Faltksog who was married to Bjorn Ulvaeus the successor album Ring Ring was their next album released this time with the girl half in 1973.
Digitally remastered edition of the first recordings by the duo hired by producer Stig Anderson as in-house songwriters his Polar Records label. The title track "Lycka" (lyrics by Stig) was released as a single, but it's b-side, the Salvation Army-style "Hej gamle man!" became a hit, topping at No.1 for 5 weeks on the Swedish Top 10! The song's success was partly due to the fact that Agnetha & Frida appeared on backing vocals, the first time the quartet recorded together. "It was the birth of ABBA in a way," Frida recalled many years later. "I don't think it would have become such a hit if Agnetha and I hadn't been on it". All four first sang together in public on a trip to Cyprus in 1970 for the duo, accompanied by their wives, and all were awestruck by their vocal blend. Among the 14 bonus tracks on this edition is "To Live With You", the English translation of "Lycka", re-recorded by the duo n English in the mid-70s, appearing on this CD for the first time.

Kon Kan - Move To Move (1989)
The Canadian duo Kon Kan (musician Barry Harris and vocalist Kevin Wynne) scored an out-of-nowhere smash in 1989 with the quirky single "I Beg Your Pardon." Incorporating a repetitive drum beat, a catchy keyboard line, Wynne's droll vocal delivery (somewhat similar to New Order's Bernard Sumner) and the ingenious sampling of Lynn Anderson's hit "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden," "I Beg Your Pardon" became a dancefloor staple and eventually crossed over to the pop charts where it hit the Top 20. Kon Kan followed the single's success with the album Move to Move. "I Beg Your Pardon," included here in two versions, is still engaging dance-pop fluff; although released in 1989, the song could have easily been a hit in 1999. The rest of Move to Move goes down just as easy, even though the lightweight dance pop doesn't quite scale the heights of "Pardon." "Puss and Boots," which includes snippets from songs by Led Zeppelin and Nancy Sinatra, comes pretty close, however; it also became Kon Kan's only other chart single (at number 58.) Move to Move is harmless, disposable fun. Kevin Wynne eventually disappeared from the music scene; Barry Harris kept the Kon Kan name for the 1990 flop Syntonic, eventually forming the short-lived dance outfit Outta Control and the prolific remix team Thunderpuss 2000.

Pearl Jam - 12 June 2000, Landgraaf, Holland (2000)
The Pearl Jam "Official" Bootlegs are a large, continually growing series of live albums by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam noted the desire of fans to own a copy of the shows they attended and the popularity of bootleg recordings.
The band had been open in the past about allowing fans to make amateur recordings, and these "official bootlegs" were an attempt to provide a more affordable and better quality product for fans. The band has sold more than 3.5 million copies of shows since launching the bootleg series in 2000.
The official bootlegs are a complete record of almost every show the band plays, excluding club "warm-up" dates. One of the shorter sets on the European tour, the Pink Pop festival isn't short on great material. Maybe due to the brevity of their time slot, Pearl Jam chose to give the fans a treat and dust off four tracks from Ten: "Even Flow," "Once," "Black," and "Jeremy," a tune that only rarely shows up on the European tour.
The show really begins on a high note with "Corduroy," kicking things off with a jolt on a tour in which quieter, slower tunes usually lead things off. In fact, the first four songs are all pretty high-energy until vocalist Eddie Vedder paints a little more somber picture with the introduction of "Rival" and "Jeremy."
He describes the rarely played tunes as "a couple of songs about Americans killing each other" after he sarcastically notes that "we Americans have really futuristic ways of handling our population problem we give each other guns and kill one another." On a lighter note, the set ends with a spectacular, full-tilt version of the rock & roll nugget "Leaving Here."

Nelson - After The Rain (1990)
Nelson is an American rock band founded by singer/songwriters Matthew and Gunnar Nelson (twin sons of Ricky Nelson and Kristin Nelson). The band achieved huge success during the early 90s with their debut album “After the Rain.
The album featured the No. 1 hit "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" and also reached double platinum status.
Led by brothers Matthew & Gunnar Nelson, Nelson brought Rick Nelson's sons a lot of exposure in the early 1990s. Like that celebrated '50s icon, Matthew and Gunnar went for a polished, boy-next-door image wholesome sex symbols, if you will but their music didn't sound anything like their father. Instead, this debut album boasted a glossy, '80s-sounding blend of corporate rock and arena rock (sort of White Lion meets Loverboy meets Bon Jovi, minus the "bad boy" element).
Rock critics tend to deplore and rail against albums like “After the Rain”, but say what you will "I Can Hardly Wait," "Fill You Up," the chart-topping "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" and other melodic tunes are both catchy and likable. Granted, this type of pop/rock can easily become bloodless and mechanical, but the Nelson siblings come across as sincere. For all its slickness, “After the Rain” has heart.

Donna Summer - The Wanderer (1980 - Remastered 2014)
“The Wanderer” is the eighth studio 1980 album by Donna Summer. It was her first release on Geffen Records and became a Top 20 album in the United States.
Summer had made her name the previous decade as the most successful female artist of the disco genre, releasing a vast selection of hit singles and albums on Casablanca Records. During this period however, Summer had felt that the label had exploited her and made her portray a sexually orientated image ("The First Lady of Love") with which she never felt comfortable. The label had also taken over other elements of Summer's personal life, to the point where she felt she had no control over her life or career. Having come out of a period of depression and rediscovering her Christian faith, Summer had made the decision to break away from Casablanca and file a lawsuit against them. After the lawsuit was eventually settled, Summer became the first artist to be signed to the newly established Geffen Records.
By 1980, banners reading "disco sucks" were seen everywhere and disco records became flops. Summer decided to leave the disco sound behind. The album was co-written and produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, who had produced the vast majority of Summer's hits since their partnership with her began in 1974. Production for The Wanderer was rushed, Geffen wanted to get new product out because of Casablanca's plans to release Walk Away, another greatest hits collection. "We would have liked to do more tweaking, and have more time for production. But we just had to let it go," said Harold Faltermeyer about the recording of the album.
"Cold Love" gained Summer a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Summer's rediscovered Christian faith was documented in the gospel song "I Believe In Jesus", for which she also received a nomination for Best Inspirational Performance. As a child Summer had sung in gospel choirs, so this song was a chance for her to go back to her roots.
The title track hit number 3 on the US singles chart. However, two follow-up singles - "Cold Love" and "Who Do You Think You're Foolin'" - were not successful and barely reached the Top 40.
This album had been out of print but was re-released on December 9, 2014, on the Driven by the Music label (remastered/bonus tracks).

The Running Man - The Running Man (1972)
One of 1972's one-shot bands was THE RUNNING MAN, genuinely credited as a project overseen by Ray RUSSELL or, simpler, one of his numerous records.
The Running Man is mostly an art-rock expression, perhaps extending a bit towards jazz-rock as well. References to it are rather peculiar, from CREAM, hints of David BOWIE or Clark Hutchinson to PROCOL HARUM or BJH, something that highlights the soft, "crossover" counterpart of the music. In other words, a mixture of "catchy melodies, harsh rock singing and jazzy improvisations", of a central prog brew to which not-so-focused more minor styles or the dizzy rock sound all express cut-and-dried contrasts and loosening.
