Propaganda - Outside World (2002)

Propaganda was formed in Düsseldorf, West Germany, in 1982, by Ralf Dörper (a member of the pioneering German industrial band Die Krupps).
As a trio, with artist Andreas Thein and vocalist Susanne Freytag, the group made initial recordings in Germany which were destined for future release in the UK, where Ralf Dörper's early experimental recordings had received critical acclaim by radio DJ John Peel and journalist Chris Bohn (aka Biba Kopf).
With the inclusion of classically trained musician and composer, Michael Mertens and singer Claudia Brücken (who had been in an all female band, The Topolinos, with Freytag), music journalist Paul Morley signed the band to Trevor Horn's newly formed ZTT label in 1983.

Outside World is a 2002 compilation album by Propaganda. The album collects remixes, B-sides and extra tracks released on 7-inch and 12-inch records, cassette singles and white-label DJ vinyl pressings during the band's tenure on the ZTT label in 1984/85.
It was released as a CD and as a CD with a bonus DVD containing promotional videos and TV commercials.

Track 9 was originally only previously available as a promotional white-label 12-inch vinyl recording, having never been commercially released prior to its inclusion on this compilation.

The German version of the CD replaces "Complete Machinery" with "p:Machinery Connected", taken directly from a copy of the cassette single. As a result, the sound quality is diminished. Reference to this issue is made in the album's liner notes

Sonny & Linda Sharrock - Paradise (1975)

Sonny Sharrock was one of the first American free-jazz guitarists. He played in the '60s and early '70s with Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Roy Ayers, Herbie Mann and many other greats.
He also recorded three solo LPs at the beginning of the '70s with his wife Linda Sharrock on vocals, before discreetly disappearing from the musical scene. The couple divorced in 1978.

1st off, you have have to be ready for Linda's vocals. They're wordless, and an confident take on the path Yoko Ono blazed.
It's mannered, funny, terrifying - i wonder if the B-52s heard this. She's in tune and fearless; i enjoy it, and i've sold Keith Jarrett records solely because of his vocalizations in the background.
She doesn't sing that much, either. The focus is on the guitar.
That's the reason you're here, of course. Sharrock's guitar; he plays high up the fretboard, choking otherworldy skronks out.
Everything wobbles and smears. It rocks as surely and complexly as any Ulmer or Fripp, but no one sounds exactly like this.
The rest of the band is competent, but not monster, famous players. The keyboardist, Kenny Armstrong, deserves mention for some fun Moog solos.
"Gary's Step" ends the record on a slow burn, building through successive waves of guitar frenzy on a bluesy groove and Linda's keening; Sharrock may not have liked this record, but I do.
