Country Joe And The Fish - The Life And Times Of Country Joe And The Fish (1971)

The Life and Times of Country Joe and the Fish is a compilation album by the American psychedelic rock band Country Joe and the Fish and was released on Vanguard Records in September 1971 (see 1971 in music). The album provides a summary of Country Joe and the Fish's history from their formation in 1965 to their disbandment in 1970, and also serves as a survey of their recording career during that span. Although the track listing is not in a specified chronological order, it does encompass a mixture of their most celebrated experimental and traditionally-structured compositions. All of the songs included on the original The Life and Times of Country Joe and the Fish album can all be found on the band's first five albums, Electric Music for the Mind and Body, I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die, Together, Here We Are Again, and CJ Fish.
The album includes the first appearance of the original folk and jug version of the group's best known song, "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag", outside the band's first EP released on the self-published Rag Baby magazine. A live rendition performed at the Woodstock Festival also concludes the album. Other live recordings featured on the album include "Superbird", "Marijuana", "Rock and Soul Music", "Masked Marauder", and "Love Machine". Of the singles included on the album, the only one to nationally chart was "Not So Sweet Lorraine", which manage to reach number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Life and Times of Country Joe and the Fish was the final album by the band to be distributed by Vanguard Records to chart nationally. Upon release, the album reached number 198 on the Billboard 200 and was commended for its good sound quality in comparison to Vanguard's later compilation albums.

Bob Geldof - Great Songs of Indifference The Anthology 1986-2001 (4CD) (2005)

4 CD box set. To celebrate Geldof, the musician, Great Songs of Indifference: The Anthology 1986-2001 brings together his 4 albums Deep in the Heart of Nowhere, the Vegetarians of Love, the Happy Club and Sex, Age and Death, with a wealth of bonus material, some previously unreleased. Universal. 2005.
This package has all four of his solo albums digitally remastered with bonus tracks.
Deep In The Heart Of Nowhere (1986): I saw the video for "This Is The World Calling" on MTV (Yes, when they used to play videos) in November 1986. I got this on cassette for my 14th birthday. The version of "This Is The World Calling" on that cassette is different from the cd versions, but not by much. This is my favorite Geldof album and it sounds fantastic digitally remastered. The track order on the cassette was different from the track order on the original cd and this remastered version. I always kind of liked the sequencing of the cassette and the version of "This Is The World Calling" on it as well. Standout tracks include "I Cry Too", "When I Was Young", "This Heartless Heart", "The Beat Of The Night", "Night Turns To Day" and "August Was A Heavy Month". The four bonus tracks are okay and do not detract from the rest of the album.
The Vegetarians Of Love (1990): I got this on cd when it was released in August 1990 (I Think). A major music style shift with a more stripped down effect. Still, I think this is also a great album, and my second favorite from Geldof. Standout tracks include "Love Or Something", "The Great Song Of Indifference", "Thinking Voyager 2 Type Things", "Big Romantic Stuff", "The Chains Of Pain", "A Rose At Night" and "No Small Wonder". The seven bonus songs here are probably the best of the four albums.
The Happy Club (1992): I got this on cd when it was released in April 1992. This remastered version omits "Yeah, Right" from the original release, but I went back and listened to it and felt that it was a good idea to leave it off the digital remaster. The track order is slightly different too on the digital remaster, and I think it works much better. Standout tracks include "Attitude Chicken", "The Soft Soil", "A Hole To Fill", "My Hippy Angel", "Too Late God", "Road Of Germany (After BD)" and "A Sex Thing". The three bonus tracks are okay.
Sex, Age And Death (2001): Obviously and intentionally bleak what with the suicide of his ex-wife and Michael Hutchence between albums. I don't like this one as much as his others. Standout tracks include "One For Me", "$6,000,000 Loser", "Scream In Vain", "Inside Your Head" and "10:15". The nine bonus songs are, again, just okay.
The reason to get this for those, like me, who already have them individually is that they're all digitally remastered and come with extra tracks. The booklet is informative with a review of each of the four albums followed by all the lyrics to each original album's tracks.

They Only Come Out at Night is the third studio album by The Edgar Winter Group. It went to No. 3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, eventually sold two million copies.
While this album will forever be remembered for spawning the huge hit singles "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride," there's plenty more to appreciate on this stellar release. Sailor - Dressed For Drowning (1980)

Sailor are a British pop group, best known in the 1970s for their hit singles "A Glass of Champagne" and "Girls, Girls, Girls", written by the group's lead singer and 12-string guitar player, Georg Kajanus.
Sailor's original line-up split up in 1978, although Pickett and Marsh released more material as Sailor with Gavin and Virginia David in 1980, with an album of Pickett compositions called Dressed for Drowning, produced by James William Guercio at his Caribou studio in Colorado
This was Sailor's final studio LP with only two original members. Don't let that trouble you. The addition of a female vocalist expands the sound beyond cheery dancehall ditties and moves into Heart / Quarterflash territory with "Danger on the Titanic" as the standout track. Most hits collections do include some cuts from this including Private Eye, Hat Check Girl and the beautiful ballad, Starlight.

Andrew Dice Clay (born Andrew Clay Silverstein; September 29, 1957) is an American comedian and actor.
He played the lead role in the 1990 film The Adventures of Ford Fairlane.
 Clay has been in several movies and has released a number of stand-up comedy albums. He is currently focused on acting and putting aside his stand-up.
40 Too Long is a comedy album by comedian Andrew Dice Clay, which was released in 1992. The album's name was taken from an argument he says he had with a Chinese clothing sales guy who took his size (42 long) the wrong way and kept suggesting smaller sizes.
Unlike Clay's albums previously, he tends to side more with the women in this one on just about everything.

Thompson Twins were a British music group that formed in April 1977 and disbanded in May 1993. Initially a new wave group, they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity in the mid-1980s, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the globe.
The Thompson Twins had a major chart run in the 1980s with no less than 7 top 40 hits. It was the decade of Megamixes and the Thompsons had a series of 3 "Out Of The Gap" Megamixes.
There was the "Out Of The Gap" (Extended Megamix) with 4 songs and also includes the "Sister Of Mercy" (Extended Mix) - this one was about 9 mins long.

Aretha Franklin - Yeah!!! (1965)

Yeah!!! (or Aretha Franklin In Person With Her Quartet) is the eighth studio album by American singer Aretha Franklin, Released on May 17, 1965 by Columbia Records. Contrary to the overdubbed sounds of audience murmurs, the album was not a live album, but instead was recorded live at New York's Columbia Studios and produced by Clyde Otis.
This 'live' nightclub date with a jazz trio, revealed to be a faked on the Columbia compilations that have since come out, is nonetheless a great LP, maybe the best single Columbia LP from Aretha. John Hammond discovered her and just wanted great music, but the label couldn't decide if she was a show tune singer, jazz or r&b and never figured out she was all of the above and deserved her own category. This is the most jazzy Aretha ever and if she'd wanted to concentrate on this one area of her talent, she would still be ruling it. Hopefully Columbia will issue the undoctored recordings complete some day soon. The clicking silverware and audience murmurs as if they were ignoring her are actually distracting on a couple of songs, which given that it was dubbed in are overkill besides being ridiculous.
This would be Franklin's last collection of jazz recordings until the release of 1973's Hey Now Hey (The Other Side of the Sky), released during her landmark tenure at Atlantic Records.

Solomon Burke - Soul Alive! [2 CD Remastered] (2002)

For pure soul testifying, no one compares to Solomon Burke. He earned his title -- "King of Soul" -- by bringing the gospel fervor of the Southern preacher to his performances, and no recording proves his command over an audience quite like Soul Alive! Recorded in 1983 in Washington, D.C., the set proves Burke had lost little from his '60s heyday; he works through nearly all of his hits, spurring on the concert-goers as though they were the ones performing instead of him in fact, some of the women are heard screaming so often they should've been credited. Burke shines most when leading the faithful through "I Can't Stop Loving You," pausing for a lengthy monologue before reprising the song and leading into a devastating finish. Elsewhere he works through deeply felt country-blues-gospel fusions like "I Almost Lost My Mind," "Take Me (Just as I Am)," "He'll Have to Go," and "Down in the Valley."
"I know there's something going on in this place that doing good for somebody!" shouts Solomon Burke early on in "Soul Alive," and he may have even understated the case. As with the best live albums (Sinatra, James Brown, the Stones, KISS), this set, recorded mostly in Washington, DC, captures a live soul experience as few others have(especially in the 80s, when it was released).
Many remember Burke from "Cry to Me," featured on the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack. That hit is here, along with songs he ("The Price," "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love," "Tonight's The Night") or others ("I Can't Stop Loving You," "Hold What You Got," "He'll Have To Go.") recorded during soul's peak years. What makes this album special is that Burke, a preacher and gospel singer since childhood, weaves useful, emotional sermons around these medleys (his monologue about "the women of today" is hilarious and useful) giving the crowd and listener the best of the gospel and secular worlds. In doing so, Burke reversed - 40 years later - Ray Charles' use of gospel style in blues songs which angered, then inspired, fans of those genres. Every shout, every Burke one-liner ("All we need is a water bed now" ), every note of this set is to cherish.
